Description
I've made this bracelet for my friend Valentina Took me a couple of months to figure out the design... how to fit 2 Ammonite fossil halves into the bracelet and not to make it too wide.
I've added black freshwater pearls, because - it's an Ammonite... an ancient ocean creature!
Ammonites crawled the Earth's oceans 400-66 million years ago.
The Cretaceous-Paleogene Extinction, also known as the K-T Boundary, saw the demise of three quarters of the Earths plant and animal species. It is believed there was a powerful impact by a celestial body, such as an asteroid or comet which altered the climate of the Earth. Another possibility is that the debris from an impact or volcanic eruptions created an abnormally long winter which effected photosynthesis.
The outside shell would keep the structure, but during that long period of time, inside got filled with jasper, agate, crystals...
The largest Ammonite fossil was found in Germany, reaching 2 m (6.5 ft) in diameter.
Humans have been fascinated by ammonites throughout ancient history. Their name originates from the shells likeness to spiraled rams horns which sat atop the head of the Eqyptian god Ammon.
This Ammonite is wrapped and woven in copper wire, some parts are cold forged, then oxidized for ancient look, polished to high shine and sealed with a clear glaze.
